Feminist Led Activist Movement to Empower

The Feminist Led Activist Movement to Empower (FLAME) is an RSO that promotes student activism around issues of gender and its intersections. FLAME aims to foster a welcoming, intersectional social justice coalition that educates and creates a more just community. FLAME hosts events across campus in order to facilitate feminist activism. • Monthly General Assembly

  FLAME holds regular meetings focused on social justice related topics.

• Take Back the Night

  Take Back the Night is a national annual march and rally against sexual violence, originally a night to "take back" college campuses that had become sights of fear for women. Today, all are invited to take part in the march against all forms of sexual and gendered violence. Our night begins with a gathering to listen to survivors of sexual assault and partner violence, followed by a march in the streets of the Bloomington-Normal community.

• Clothesline Project

  For the Clothesline Project, FLAME gathers on the quad to hang painted shirts made by survivors of domestic and sexual violence in our local community. We also table for survivors to make their own shirts and to educate those who pass by.

• The Vagina Monologues

  In previous years, FLAME worked in collaboration with the ISU theatre department to produce The Vagina Monologues. This show focuses on the struggles and triumphs of womanhood, for all women. All of the proceeds from this show are donated to local charities working to eliminate gendered and sexual violence, and other forms of oppression present in our community.
